Another example of Bourns circuit protection design innovation is illustrated in our recent TBU® High-Speed Protectors announcement. In the new Model TBU-RS series, we’ve integrated our TBU® overcurrent protector with a TVS overvoltage protection diode. This single-device solution is capable of protecting both twisted-pair RS-485 lines.
Combining these protection devices into a one package solution delivers additional advantages too. Important to customers in meeting their budget goals and space limitations is that the TBU-RS series helps to reduce component count as well as BOM costs. OEMs will like that it simplifies assembly pick and place processes as well. In our comparison tests at Bourns, we found that the TBU-RS series provides approximately 50 percent savings in board space when compared to the use of typical discrete solutions. Designers will also notice that the TBU-RS series helps them streamline and accelerate the PCB design process. This benefit is achieved by eliminating the PCB traces between a standalone TBU® device and the TVS network.
The Bourns® TBU-RS series features a fast, less than one millisecond, response time! This performance makes the series an excellent protection solution against ESD, EFT, power cross and lightning transient surge threats. The two models in the series (TBU-RS055-300-WH & TBU-RS085-300-WH) offer dual-channel protection and are designed for use in RS-485 communication interface applications and in AISG (Antenna Interface Standards Group) modems.
Providing additional design flexibility, the TBU-RS series can be used with a customer’s choice of primary protection for specific applications. For example, when coupled with an overvoltage protector such as the Bourns® GDT Model 2030-42T-SM-RPLF or the Bourns® TISP® Thyristor Surge Protector Model TISP4350J3BJR-S, the combination solution supports compliance to IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD), IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) and IEC 61000-4-5 (Surge) standards.
Available now, the Bourns® TBU-RS series is RoHS* compliant and meets industry standards such as Pb-free solder reflow profiles.
